This Paper Ship is an independent graphic design studio (husband & wife team) that focuses mainly
on print design, illustration, and photography.
The designers, Joel and Ashley Selby, who spent most of their lives just one or two states apart (Joel grew up in Maryland and Ashley lived primarily in North Carolina and West Virginia... a military brat), didn't meet until their freshman year
of college in a drawing class. To make a long story short,
they hit it off over a fabric study, competed against each other in design boot camp, got married, and graduated together with Bachelors of Fine Arts degrees in
Graphic Design.
These days they live in their cozy studio in downtown Greensboro, NC with their three cats and garden plants. (They recently had to give up their chickens but plan to start a new flock in the near future when space permits!) When they're not working on design work,
they cook, bake, watch 80's movies,
photograph, write, travel, garden, and listen to records.
They dream of one day publishing children's books and illustrating for big name magazines or being featured on one of their favorite blogs, Drawn! In the meantime, they adore their down-to-earth clients and freedom to draw all things whimsical, child-like, and retro.
